With the new 3D Mammography availble, many questions are being asked to learn more about it. Here are the top 3 questions answered.
1. What is 3D mammography?
3D mammography or Tomosynthesis is a new technology that allows doctors to examine your breast tissue one layer at a time. This technology finds cancers earlier than 2D imaging. If we find breast cancer early, the five-year survival rate is almost 100%.
2. What should I expect during a 3D exam?
This new technology doesn't change much about your mammogram. It produces a similar low-level amount of radiation and there is no additional compression involved. 3D imaging does take about three seconds longer to produce the required pictures.
3. Where can I get Tomosynthesis?
Our Parkview North office is currently our only location that has this new 3D technology. We are located in building 2C next to the Women's and Children's section of Parkview Hospital. Patients are more than welcome to stop in at anytime to get more information about this new technology.
